Rental Car Agencies:

In the airport, just to the right outside the customs area, you’ll find Alamo, Avis, Budget, and Thrifty. You can check online and book using city code Zih (for Zihuatanejo airport). Soft racks are a good call for smaller rental cars. See if your credit card offers some insurance coverage. Having a car allows you to cruise around for different surf spots, see sites and get food supplies.

Driving From The Airport:

Head north on Highway 200 (the only road out of the airport) following signs to Ixtapa/Lazaro Cardenas. Once past Zihuatanejo, the highway has a center divider wall and starts up the hill and out of town towards Ixtapa.

At the top of the hill, go RIGHT following the signs to Lazaro Cardenas. Drive about 30 minutes on the new highway until the 39km road marker on the right just before the Los Llanos bridge. Turn LEFT into Los Llanos before the tope (speed bump) and onto cement.VERY IMPORTANT: LEFT AFTER BRIDGE AT VILLAGE OF LOS LLANOS after 39km marker, NOT AT LA SALADITA SIGN ON HWY. (That intersection takes you on a 45 min drive to fishing village La Saladita on wrong side of river from break.)

Follow the only cement road through the village. It turns to the right at the mercado PATI, where you can find food and drink, and continues past the church and goes downhill slightly as you drive out of town onto an asphalt road.

Follow that asphalt road for about 3 miles toward the beach. When you see the water and a tall grey brick wall on the right, there is a sign for Paco’s Enramada (Leonel’s brother) and Casas Playa Saladita.

Take that dirt road to the water and Casas Playa Saladita is down the dip, past the mangos and coconut palms.

Stop in the Enramada Ilianet restaurant on the right to let people know you have arrived and to get a key.

Taxis are available in many different sizes, so check depending upon your luggage.

    There are two options:

  • You can go to the taxi coop booth to the left just outside the customs area and get a taxi at the coop price of about 700 pesos (about $60 US).
  • You can go outside the terminal and try to negotiate a cheaper rate directly with a taxi driver. Some of the drivers speak English so you can barter a price depending on the season and the number of others. All taxi drivers know how to get to Los Llanos and Saladita. Stop at a store on the way to get some food supplies. Commercial or Bodega in Zihuatanejo are huge stores, or Super Pati in Los Llanos has everything you’ll need for a while.

Driving From The States:

From the north head south toward Ixtapa and turn right at Los Llanos, 39 km before Zihuatanejo. Look up directions for printing from the map on this page.
